Florida Alpha’s Legacy and Alumni Recommendation Policies
Florida Alpha welcomes all young men who seek a healthy and beneficial fraternity experience. If you are a SigEp and your son is interested in Florida Alpha, or if you are interested in Florida Alpha and your father is a SigEp alumni, please familiarize yourself with our Legacy and Alumni Recommendation policies below.
Legacy Policy at Florida Alpha
The chapter makes the final membership decision on whether or not to extend a bid.
When a legacy is identified, the Vice President of Recruitment (VPR) will meet that person within 1 week (during 365 recruitment) or within 48 hours during formal recruitment. They will meet with the Potential New Member (PNM)/legacy to provide information to the PNM on the recruitment process and the chapters recruitment standards. The VPR will follow up with that person until the PNM/Legacy states that they are not interested in membership, or a decision is made on whether or not to extend a bid.
The VPR will give the PNM/Legacy a high-level overview of the recruitment process and standards. The chapters highest priority is selecting the best candidates for the chapter and not disclosing so much detail as to give a PNM the ability to alter their candid responses to interviews in the recruitment process.
If the chapter decides not to extend a bid,
VPR/Chapter President sits down one-on-one with PNM and thanks him for his time in recruitment so far.
Then discusses strengths and areas for improvement for the individual.
If the individual wishes to receive the feedback the VPR and chapter president will provide this in a constructive format.
Then informs PNM that he will not be given a bid at this time.
Reason: “It’s paramount that we select men that will be a good fit with the rest of the chapter.”
Following the decision made in point number 3 the VPR will personally first inform the AVC President and then inform the legacy father, uncle, brother, or grandfather to explain why within 3 days of the decision.
Alumni Recommendation Policy
If an Alumnus makes a recommendation about a PNM the VPR/Chapter President will follow the updates outlined in the Alumni Recommendation Policy.
The chapter makes the final membership decision on whether or not to extend a bid.
If an alumnus makes a recommendation for a PNM to become a member of Florida Alpha they will contact the VPR. The VPR will meet with the PNM within 1 week of receiving the recommendation and provide information to the PNM on the recruitment process. The PNM will immediately begin the recruitment process and the VPR will report updates within 48 hours to the alumnus who made the initial recommendation following the initial contact period.
