About Florida Alpha
The Florida Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was brought to the University of Florida in 1925 as the 63rd chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon nationally, and the 11th Fraternity at the University. Since that time our chapter has grown into one the largest and most prominent fraternities in the state of Florida.
Typically, Florida Alpha has been one of, if not the, largest fraternities at the University of Florida. Our chapter house, at 5 Fraternity Row, has been our home since 1955. Most recently, a complete renovation of the house was completed in August of 2017 in time for the start of the fall semester.
Athletic excellence has been a point of pride for our chapter. Florida Alpha has won many President Cups and other awards in fraternity intramural championships. Additionally, brothers have been a part of club and varsity athletics with members on Club Lacrosse, Club Ice hockey, and Varsity Football.
SigEp's prominence on campus has been furthered by brothers’ involvement in student organizations. A number of student body presidents hailed from our chapter, and many brothers have been inducted into the UF hall of fame.
After a brief negative period in our chapter’s history, we returned to campus in January 2016 and during the spring semester 40 outstanding young men were recruited to restart the organization. Since then the Chapter has received numerous accolades including highest GPA of all fraternities at UF for 7 semesters in a row and IFC Chapter of the Year five consecutive times since our return. At the national level, Florida Alpha undergrads and alumni have received the highest accolades, from the Order of the Golden Heart, to the SigEp Citation, to Zollinger Outstanding Senior, to two consecutive Buchanan Cups for outstanding chapter performance (2019-2021).
The Chapter has continued to grow, surpassing 100 outstanding young men in 2018, and reaching 150 in 2021.
