Florida Alpha Alumni Scholarships Process

The following procedure will govern the process of awarding “Florida Alpha Alumni Scholarships” by the Florida Alpha Educational Foundation..

Applications must be submitted by August 13th, 2023

Purpose
The purpose of the scholarships is to aid Florida Alpha chapter brothers in the continuation of their education at the University of Florida and in their participation in the Florida Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Award Basis
The scholarships shall be given to the brothers whom the Educational Foundation deems to be the brothers having contributed most to the growth and fraternal spirit of Sigma Phi Epsilon at the University of Florida and have a need for financial assistance.

Selection Procedure
By June 20th, 2023, the Active Chapter President will confirm with the Educational Foundation that funds are available for FL Alpha Alumni Scholarships and he will inform the Active Chapter members they may apply for scholarships. By August 13th, 2023, applicants for these scholarships will submit their applications using this link: Scholarship Application. The Chapter Regional Director & Volunteer Specialist will consolidate and provide them to the Scholarship Committee. Selection of winners will be made by a Committee of at least three Educational Foundation members appointed by the Foundation President.  These scholarships will be awarded at the Balanced Man Scholarship Banquet on Thursday, August 24th, 2023.

Eligibility*
An applicant for the Florida Alpha Alumni Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a current member of the UF Florida Alpha Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon in good standing: and;
2. Is enrolled as a student at UF for the upcoming Fall semester and one of the below;
3. a) Has previously lived in the house for two full semesters;
    b) Is living in the house this Fall and plans to live there for two full semesters;
    c) Is committed to living in the house for two full semesters beginning no later than the following year’s Fall Semester.
* No brother shall be awarded more than a total of $1,500 in Florida Alpha Alumni Scholarships over the course of his college career.

Scholarship Amount
The number of scholarships and the individual scholarship dollar amount will be determined each year by the Educational Foundation.

Payment
The scholarship payment shall be paid to the UF for the benefit of the recipient. The payment shall be paid no later than November 1st of the year in which it is awarded and it will be credited toward the upcoming spring semester.

Amendments
The Florida Alpha Educational Foundation reserves the right to amend these procedures at any time.
